Sealants in Frederick, MD
Sealants are a great way to help children develop good oral health. A sealant is a tooth-colored acrylic material that is applied on top of the chewing surfaces of the permanent molars. These cavity-prone pits and grooves are protected by the sealant, which provides a barrier against tooth decay. After placing the sealant, it is hardened with a special light in order to allow it to adhere to the tooth.
With the proper care, a sealant can last for many years. In order to provide our patients with the best protection, Dr. Politmi Mantzouranis, DDS recommends having sealants applied as soon as the permanent molars come in. While sealants can help improve oral health, they are in no way a substitute for proper daily oral hygiene, including brushing with fluoride toothpaste and flossing.
